Day 16 18.8.18 Charleville

Arrived in Charleville at 10am and headed straight for the cosmos center.  Booked in to do some sun gazing, visit the observatory  by day and do some night sky gazing. We also booked a top secret WW11 convoy tour for tomorrow.
Perfect timing as the sun gazing was about to start. A small group meant we could use the telescope often and we got lots of Q & A time.

The sun as seen through a special telescope with multiple filters. We could see multiple solar flares.
It was hard to get a good shot as it moves so quickly.
When we went back in to the general area we timed it perfectly again for a discussion on meteorites.  We even got to hold a fallen star.

Space junk that looked like a ball rolled around in emu feathers.  It was actually carbon fibre from the atmosphere .
Pics from in side the shuttle like observatory.
Reminds me off a few scenes from Stargate.
 Picture boards in the shuttle.

Picture on the toilet door.
Then it was off to find a spot for the night.
Stopped on the way to have a look around.

Vortex rain making guns. Built in 1902, during a great drought, it was hoped thatonce the these guns were blasted into the sky it would change the atmospheric pressure enough to trick the sky into raining .  It didn't work!

We had to book into a caravan park as theres no choice in Charleville.

We went back to the cosmos center for the night sky gazing.  No photos allowed.
We viewd the moon, Venus, Saturn, Jupiter and various stars. It was a really good night.

As we weren't allowed to take photos they gave us these information sheets.
It was quite chilly at the observatory but it was incredibly good.
