Day 18 20.08.18 Blackall

Today we moved on to Blackall 300kms away. First stop was Augathella for morning coffee and explore.
Emu chicks crossing the road as we came into town.

Interesting facts and sculpture at meat ant park.

 Anzac memorial.
Rescue Joey sitting outside the mens shed .
 More sculptures.
Smileys café.  Coffee was strong but not very hot.

 Mural at the local garage.
Ellengowan hotel has free camping out the back.

Then we moved on to Tambo for lunch and to explore . Tambo is the oldest town in the Central West and has a population of 385 in town.
The obligatory stop at the teddy workshop . Picked a cowboy teddy looked at the price and decided against it. $235! The teddies are handmade in the shop from Australian wool.

 As below.

 Street art.
 A huge bottle tree.
 A second memorial area.

 Inside the museum
 Morse code message.
An old shack out the back with a very big lean.
 As below

The most amazing quilt crafted by Tambo Arts and crafts to celebrate Tambo's 150th year. It tells the story of Blackall from discovery to today. Incredible detail.
A  surveyors marker that dates back to 1863, a 100 years before I was born!
This old fire engine is called 'Flo' by the locals. She was fabricated in 1921 in Surrey, UK. Shipped to Brisbane in 1928. Decommissioned 20 years later. She was refurbished by volunteers in 2012.
An old Chevrolet outside the council office.

Finally we made it to Blackall and are camped beside the Barcoo river. Blackall was gazetted as a town in 1886.

This sculpture is called Life Span. Made predominantly from recycled bore casings and is meant to represent life in general. Our paths converge , cross over and level out to new beginnings!
The Barcoo river is very dry and used for motor bike riding.
Another very cold night predicted, down to about 1 degree apparently.
